Rule 8 letter
A Rule 8 letter or notice refers to a stage in the process of obtaining permission for developments which are categorised as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP). The process is referred to as a Development Consent Order (DCO) and the Rule 8 letter or notice is issued by the Planning Inspectorate formally opening the examination stage of the process by confirming the procedural decisions that made following the preliminary meeting. It is preceded by the Rule 6 letter giving notice of the Preliminary Meeting concerning the NSIP matter under consideration, normally sent to all relevant consultation parties.
